Considering the future involves a journey through time, space and information that can be undertaken collectively by using four levels of intelligence :
- Memory of the past
At this level, a group searches through its memory (the information about the past stored in books and databases). These are just memories, imitations of the past : a level of knowledge usually acquired by hearsay.
- Memory-based comparison
The second level of collective intelligence is the researching of unexpected or serendipitous interactions. This assumes greater behavioral flexibility on the part of the group. The members of the group must dare to think differently.
- The intelligence of the eye
The third level of intelligence uses mental images that describe reality. We can construct better arguments based on abstract situations that can be represented visually using diagrams (chapter 5, no 1).
Sometimes the conclusions arise from the unconscious mind, which filters our emotions and collective beliefs. Hence the above four levels :
- a mental image of a past event = a memory ;
- current = a perception ;
- coming = a simulation ;
- future = a revelation.
